Practicing skills at home
Parents always ask me what they can help with at home, so I'd like to extend some tips on here. Math fluency is important and every student is in a different place. The skills that need to be mastered are regrouping with subtraction (borrowing), telling time, working with elapsed time (if we eat lunch at 12:15 and it takes us 20 minutes, what time would we finish?), multiplications and division. These are very important skills that we will work on in class and that was covered in the previous year. I've been showing them fluency games with a deck of cards. Pinterest is also great for coming up with creative ideas. Watches and alarm clocks are always great for them to have as well and not the fancy ones that tell you the time if you ask! :)
